Description
Royster Memorial Golf Course traces its origins to April 26, 1948, when Dr. and Mrs. S.S. Royster donated roughly 50 acres of land to the City of Shelby, North Carolina. That gift was developed into a nine-hole municipal course, dedicated as part of the Shelby Parks and Recreation Department. Despite sitting in the Piedmont flatlands, the course features notably hilly terrain that gives it a more mountainous character than the surrounding landscape might suggest — a quality that sets it apart from other courses in the area. Royster Memorial is open 364 days a year, closing only on Christmas Day.

Michael GroseOctober 12, 2025Lovely home course that challenges the golfer to maintain control even though, for the most part, the course is not too long. It is a great scoring course but will eat you alive if you are not accurate off the tee. Several wonderful holes like 3, 5, 7 that have elevation changes. & hole 2, in my opinion, is the hardest Par 3 in Cleveland County.
