You line up your putt. You've picked your line. You stroke it confidently. And then it breaks completely the wrong way.

The dreaded slice ruins more rounds than any other shot in golf. Ball starts left of the target, curves hard right, and finds the rough, trees, or out-of-bounds. For a right handed golfer, it is the most common and most costly shot miss in the game.

The chip shot can save par, rescue a hole, and - when everything clicks - feel like pure magic. For most golfers, it is one of the least practised parts of the game, which is a shame because the mechanics are straightforward. With regular practice and the right technique, you will start getting up and down far more consistently. That consistency is what separates good short-game players from great ones.

Breaking 90 is one of golf's most satisfying milestones - and one of the most achievable for golfers willing to change their approach. It means shooting 89 or better across 18 holes. Most golfers stuck in the mid-to-high 90s are closer than they realise. The physical ability is usually already there. What's missing is strategy, short game reliability, and a clear picture of where those strokes are actually going.

You can stripe it down the fairway all day, but if your short game falls apart inside 100 yards, your scorecard won't reflect your ball-striking. The uncomfortable truth most golfers eventually accept is this: rounds are won and lost around the green.
