Description
Katayamazu Golf Club Katayamazu (Hakusan) is an 18-hole course in Kaga, Ishikawa Prefecture, Japan, and one of three layouts — alongside the Nihonkai and Kaga courses — that together form a 54-hole complex on the Katayamazu terrain. The Hakusan course was designed by Sato Giichi and opened in 1957, making skillful use of the natural undulations and pine forests of the site. Its outward nine features gentle slopes, while the inward nine plays flat. Mature pines separate each hole, and the layout is defined by Sato's signature Alison bunkers, which frame the greens and demand careful course management from every tee. Playing toward the sacred peak of Hakusan gives the course a distinctive sense of place, with shots played uphill into that backdrop among the highlights. The course has been part of a seaside complex long regarded as one of the largest golf facilities on the Sea of Japan coast.
