Humewood Golf Club

Humewood Golf Club, a links course in Port Elizabeth, Eastern Cape, South Africa, was designed by Major S V Hotchkin and opened in 1931. It plays to par 72 over 6,390 yards of undulating fairways, sand dunes, coastal brush, and deep bunkers. Several holes stand out. Hole 3, known as The Bones, is a long sea-facing par 3 with a small green guarded by two large bunkers. Hole 6, Devil's Elbow, is a short par 3 regarded as the toughest par 3 on the SA Professional Tour. Hole 13 is a long par 4 played uphill over a rolling fairway to a green tucked into dune protection. Hole 17 is a par 5 with a high ridge crossing the fairway and a burn fronting the green, exposed to crosswinds throughout. The course is ranked 9th best in South Africa and 97th in the world, and is rated 4.6 by Hole19 golfers, making it one of the most-played courses in Eastern Cape on Hole19. Practice facilities include a lengthy driving range, a separate chipping and putting green, and lessons. The clubhouse restaurant, the 19th, sits in an elegant setting with views over the links and Algoa Bay.
