Golfclub Varus sits on ground where Romans and Germanic tribes clashed over 2,000 years ago, and the history of the landscape is still visible in the surrounding moorlands that stretch across this part of Lower Saxony near Ostercappeln. The 18-hole course is laid out across what was once flat moorland, shaped into a layout that suits golfers of all abilities. A separate 3-hole short course is available for beginners getting to grips with the game. From the yellow tees the course measures 6,032 metres, from the red tees 5,315 metres, and from the white championship tees it stretches to 6,574 metres. Rated 4.6 by Hole19 golfers, the course has earned a strong reputation among those who have played it.

Julian RolfSeptember 10, 2025Leider ein sehr enttäuschender Besuch. Das Personal im Clubsekretariat war unfreundlich und völlig unflexibel. Bei der Buchung wird nicht darauf hingewiesen, dass parallel Turniere stattfinden, die Vorrang haben und den gesamten Spielbetrieb für Gäste lahmlegen – in unserem Fall standen wir wegen 5 (!) Viererflights komplett still. Solche Informationen wären für Gäste absolut essenziell. Auch die sogenannte „Spielemesse“ war eine reine Katastrophe und im Nachhinein betrachtet nur hinausgeworfenes Geld. Das einzig Positive: die Greenkeeper waren freundlich und machen einen guten Job. Leider war das auch schon alles, was man diesem Platz zugutehalten kann.
