Country Club of Waterbury

Set in Waterbury, Connecticut, the Country Club of Waterbury is an 18-hole private course designed by Donald Ross and opened in 1928. The layout reflects Ross's characteristic approach: elevated tees, uphill and punchbowl greens, native fescues, doglegs, and a mix of water and lateral hazards that place a premium on positioning. Several holes stand out. Hole 2 plays as a sweeping dogleg left to an elevated green with a false front. Hole 8 features a small, undulating green ringed by four bunkers. Hole 9 is the course's only par 5, a short risk/reward hole. Hole 18 is regarded as one of the best finishing holes in Connecticut. The club has hosted over 30 CSGA State Championships, including 11 CT State Amateur Championships, 9 Russell C. Palmer Cups, 7 CT State Senior Championships, and 2 CT State Women's Tournaments. GOLF Magazine ranks it 5th in Connecticut and number 8 in its Top 100 Golf Courses, with a national ranking of 175 among the top 200 Historic Golf Courses of America.
