California Golf Club of San Francisco

California Golf Club of San Francisco, known as "Cal Club," is a private 18-hole club with deep roots in Northern California golf history. Founded in 1918, the club relocated in 1924 to approximately 425 acres down the Peninsula — land once part of Baden Farm — where rolling hills, timber, and bay views provided an ideal setting. The original routing was designed by Willie Locke and A. Vernon Macan, opening on May 26th, 1926. Alister MacKenzie later redesigned the bunkering and at least two greens, work that preceded his renowned project at Cypress Point Club. In 2007–2008, Kyle Phillips carried out a restoration aimed at returning the course to its golden age design and character. The restoration introduced fine fescue grass throughout, giving Cal Club fast and firm playing conditions that stand apart from other courses in Northern California.
