Lake Merced Golf Club

Lake Merced Golf Club, a private 18-hole course in Daly City, California, was designed by Alister Mackenzie and opened in 1922. Mackenzie returned in 1929 to redesign the layout — hole 7 is named in his honor. The terrain works through an old riverbed, which frames the closing hole as a classic finish, and includes steep dips in the fairway, fairway bunkers, downhill par threes, and undulating greens. Several holes carry particular weight among members. The opening hole bends slightly left and is protected by a single bunker on the left side. Hole 4 is regarded by members as the hardest on the course, and hole 15 holds a special place in the club's history. A dedicated driving range sits behind the trees to the right, and the clubhouse includes a dining room.
