Wanakah Country Club

Wanakah Country Club, a private 18-hole course in New York, opened in 1899 and was designed by William Watson on an elevated parcel overlooking Lake Erie. The layout has hosted the Ansley Wilcox Invitational Tournament, the Comstock Invitational Tournament, and the Ganson Depew Memorial Tournament. The opening hole sets the tone with sweeping views of Lake Erie, a downhill tee shot, and a narrow fairway guarded by two fairway bunkers. Hole 2 plays uphill to the smallest and hardest green on the course. Hole 3 carries out of bounds along the entire left side, while hole 4 features a green bisected by swales and subtle ridges. Hole 6 plays directly into the wind with out of bounds left. Several holes on the front nine use cross bunkers, fairway bunkers, and green contours to create strategic decisions throughout. The clubhouse includes the Grille Room and Patio area, serving custom menus for seated dinners. A dining room accommodates up to 220 guests, and a great room with a wood-burning fireplace is available alongside a heated terrace in season.
