Description
Thorpeness Golf Club & Hotel is a resort course on the Suffolk heathland of England, designed by James Braid and opened in 1922. The 18-hole layout plays to par 70 over 6,311 yards of firm, quick-drying ground threaded through heather, gorse, pine, and silver birch trees. Hole 7 is a par 3 that plays over a picturesque pond to a tightly guarded tiered green. The course has hosted England Golf's Logan Trophy, The English Seniors Championship, and the PGA Super 60's Tournament. It is ranked among England's top 100 golf courses and one of the finest coastal heathland courses in Britain. Hole19 golfers rate it 4.5, based on 70+ reviews. Three PGA professionals offer one-to-one coaching sessions. The pro shop opens from 08:30 to 16:00 and provides buggy and trolley hire. Ogilvie's restaurant serves grill house classics made with local Suffolk ingredients, with views of the tee. Braid's Bar serves food all day in a relaxed setting. The hotel has 36 en-suite bedrooms on site.

Anthony KleanthousOctober 25, 2024Stunning coastal scenery, well drained, sandy soil, a relaxed ambience and a LOT of gorse bushes, so pack spare balls. While you can’t expect the same attention to bunkers and fairways as a top price course (hence only 4 stars) it is well maintained and the greens are perfect. It’s challenging, which can be frustrating for a mid-high handicapper like me but it means you never get bored and just keep coming back for more. Plus, you can walk your dog at the same time. I LOVE it.

Stunning setting, immaculate greens, well drained, sandy soil, lush fairways. Difficult; some fiendish traps - plenty of thick gorse, long grass and bunkers. Has improved a lot this year thanks to thinning out of excess foliage and more attention to bunkers. I feel blessed to have it as my home course.
