Description
Sugarwood Golf Club sits in Lavalette, West Virginia, just six miles south of Huntington, and ranks among one of the most-played courses in West Virginia on Hole19. The 18-hole layout has been continuously refined since opening in 1980, with a 30-year renovation completing in spring 2012 when the new green on Hole 16 opened. Multiple tee options span 5,186 to 6,710 yards, making the course accessible to a wide range of players. Sugarwood is consistently ranked among the best public courses in the state. Beyond the course itself, the club has earned the West Virginia PGA Chapter's Merchandiser of the Year award on multiple occasions. The indoor club fitting and teaching studio, introduced in 2013, features a launch monitor, simulator, fitting systems, and the V1 video teaching system with high-speed cameras shooting at 210 frames per second for detailed swing analysis.

Jim GallowayOctober 27, 2024Top 10 course in West Virginia (public). Front nine is shorter than back nine. Greens are smooth and relatively quick. Water comes into play on some holes on back nine. Sand traps are 7.5 / 10, sand is sticky with a hard base play able, but not ideal. Weekend Rate $45 for 18 holes with cart.

Nice layout, back nine is more diverse than the front nine. Did catch up with a young group playing in a fivesome, made pace of play a little challenging, especially since they were partying as much as they were playing golf.
