San Diego Country Club

San Diego Country Club is an 18-hole layout in Chula Vista, California, designed by William Watson and completed in 1921 — before bulldozers were in use. That hand-shaped origin gives the course a naturally rolling terrain where each shot plays differently from the last. Billy Bell later remodelled the course, adding length along with extra tees and bunkers. Experts have rated the greens and fairways among the finest in Southern California. The club has a strong competitive history. It hosted the 1952 and 1953 PGA Tour San Diego Open, the 1964 USGA Women's Open Championship won by honorary member Mickey Wright, and the 1993 US Women's Amateur Championship. More recently it has held the 2002 and 2007 Pacific Coast Amateur Championships and the 2013 Southern California Golf Association Amateur Championship, alongside regular US Open and US Senior Open qualifying.
