Royal Troon Golf Club (Portland)

Royal Troon Golf Club (Portland) is an 18-hole links course in Troon, Scotland, with origins dating to 1895. It was originally designed by William Fernie — the Troon professional who won the Open Championship in 1883 — and later redesigned by Dr Alister MacKenzie in the early 1920s. Although it shares the links character of the Old Course, the Portland is more sheltered and plays shorter. The holes wind through terrain thick with gorse and broom, giving the course a distinctive natural feel. The par layout is notably varied. Five par 3s are spread across the round, while five par 5s add length and scoring opportunity — four of those par 5s falling on the back nine.
