Royal Birkdale Golf Club

Royal Birkdale Golf Club has hosted the Open Championship ten times — 1954, 1961, 1965, 1971, 1976, 1983, 1991, 1998, 2008, and 2017 — making it one of the most frequently used Open venues in the rota. The course has also staged the Ryder Cup (1965, 1969), the Walker Cup, the Curtis Cup, the Amateur Championship, the Ladies Open Championship, the Senior Open Championship, and numerous other events across more than a century of competitive golf. Designed by George Lowe and opened in 1897, this 18-hole links in Southport, England runs through natural dunes on semi-private access. The 18th hole is recognised as iconic, and the Bistro in the Longhurst Room looks directly out over it.
