Papago Golf Course, owned by the City of Phoenix, is an 18-hole public layout long regarded as one of the finest public courses in Arizona. The course was designed by William Francis (Billy) Bell, a respected golf course architect who learned the craft from his father, William Park Bell. The two collaborated on many highly rated California courses. Bell went on to design nearly one hundred courses, with Torrey Pines in San Diego among his best-known works. He also designed Tucson Country Club and Wickenburg Country Club in Arizona. The fairways and greens are in great shape especially for the summer. Greens are very fast. Staff is super friendly and hey. I really enjoyed the course, but it is target golf. If you are not hitting the ball straight off of the tee it’ll be a long day.
