Crown Mines Golf Course
Johannesburg South, South Africa
Crown Mines Golf Course in Johannesburg South is an 18-hole layout steeped in mining history. Explore the course and see reviews on Hole19.
Description
Crown Mines Golf Course is built on genuine mining country in the Ormonde Valley, around 6 kilometres south-west of Johannesburg, Gauteng. The club traces its origins back nearly a century, with the present 18-hole layout occupying one third of the former Crown Mines mining area. A full rebuild was undertaken in 1970 and completed in 1976, shaping the course as it stands today. Over the years it has hosted competitive golf at a high level, including the Minolta Match Play, won by Zimbabwe's Tony Johnstone. His trophy was cast in the form of the mineshaft that once overlooked the 18th green — a fitting tribute to the course's distinctive industrial heritage.

The course is in the worste condition in years thorns as fairways and greens are full of G.U.R. Will not recommend anyone to play there until their greenkeeper does something drastically to turn the state of the course around.
