Brae Burn Country Club (Championship) is a private 18-hole, par-72 Donald Ross design in Newton, Massachusetts, opened in 1897. It plays to 6,192 yards from the blue markers and is a popular round among Hole19 golfers in Massachusetts. The layout moves through streams, natural areas, valleys, mounds, and bunkers, with elevated greens adding difficulty throughout. Hole 1 is designed in the Ross tradition of easing a player into the round without undue early pressure. Hole 8, a par 3, carries a record from the 1919 U.S. Open when a competitor carded an eighteen — a mark that still stands. Billy Casper singled out hole 12 as his favorite on the course, and hole 17 ranks among the tougher par 3s anywhere. Practice facilities include a driving range, chipping areas, and a large putting green. The 50,000-square-foot clubhouse includes a large fully equipped golf shop, the Grille Room — a contemporary restaurant drawing on local, fresh ingredients with seasonally updated menus — a full-service bar and grill at the pool facility, a 5,250-square-foot ballroom, and a 2,000-square-foot mahogany deck and veranda.
