Black Mountain Golf Course in North Carolina: a 1929 Donald Ross design featuring the once-longest hole in the world. Book your round on Hole19.
Description
Hole 17 at Black Mountain Golf Course is a par 6 measuring 747 yards — at one time the longest hole in the world — and it sets the tone for what this Donald Ross design has always been about. Opened in 1929, the course sits in Black Mountain, North Carolina, and plays to par 71 over 18 holes at 6,215 yards. Elevation changes, tree-lined corridors, and mountain views shape the layout throughout. Ross's routing remains public access, meaning the track is open to all. A practice green is available before the round. The Green Tee Grille serves food at the turn or after 18. The pro shop is open 7:30am–5:30pm in summer and 9am–5pm in winter.

Denise HartmanSeptember 06, 2021Great course, and very tough to play. There were some places that needed work, but otherwise a great course for the price.
Jimmy SmithAugust 23, 2021Views are awesome greens are clean fairways can use some work but we did just get a weeks worth of rain so it’s understandable… will be back for sure!
Mort SteinOctober 21, 2020Decent shape for end of year. They continue to work on course. Great people at shop.

Nice layout. Tee boxes need work. Greens are generally good.

Very scenic course that’s mostly tight and somewhat hilly. Greens had been aerified a couple weeks ago and aren’t smooth right now. Fairways are very wet, several places where mowers hadn’t touched in awhile. Frustrating to hit drive down the middle and have to fish ball out of the mud. Back nine needs some tree trimming as a couple of tee shots have to be hit over or around overhanging branches. Overall a decent course, if it were drier and greens smooth, I’d play it again. Especially the front nine.
