Black Forest at Wilderness Valley (Black Forest)

Black Forest at Wilderness Valley (Black Forest) is an 18-hole course in Michigan built across nearly 400 acres of native evergreen and hardwood forest. Designer Tom Doak worked with land that seemed purpose-built for golf, shaping a layout that rewards repeat visits by presenting a different look and challenge each time out. The design pairs elaborate, multi-contoured greens with visually striking bunkering, while the natural mix of trees, sand, native grasses, and elevation changes gives every round a distinct character. The combination of terrain and artful shaping makes it difficult to focus on the shot at hand — which, in the best way, is part of the appeal.
