Baltusrol Golf Club (Lower)

Baltusrol Golf Club (Lower) is an 18-hole course in Springfield Township, New Jersey, with over twelve decades of golf history on its grounds. The course was designed by A.W. Tillinghast and opened in 1922 as part of his ambitious "Dual Courses" project — two courses built side by side simultaneously, a concept untried before Tillinghast proposed it. The Lower Course and its companion Upper Course represent the culmination of that effort, and the work earned Tillinghast lasting recognition. His design at Baltusrol was designated a National Historic Landmark by the United States Department of the Interior's National Park Service, and the property is listed on both the State of New Jersey and Federal Registers of Historic Places. The courses have been updated over the decades to keep pace with advances in equipment and player skill, reflecting a broader arc of golf's evolution in America. Few venues carry that combination of design pedigree and documented historical significance.
