Atsumaru Aso Akamizu Golf Club is an 18-hole course in Aso, Kumamoto Prefecture, Japan, designed by Shiro Akaboshi — one of Japan's most celebrated golf course architects — as the crowning work of his career. The layout makes full use of the gentle contours and scenery of the Aso caldera, creating a course where depth and distance perception can play tricks on the eye. Two distinct sections define the round: the Kishima Course, a woodland layout framed by cedar and cypress trees aged over 50 years, and the Nakadake Course, a highland stretch featuring bold elevation changes and wide fairways set against the sweeping natural landscape of Aso. Together, the 18 holes offer a strategic and varied challenge with the volcanic terrain of Aso as a constant backdrop.
