Umkomaas Golf Club

Umkomaas Golf Club is one of KwaZulu-Natal's most historic layouts, originally built as a 9-hole course in 1913 and expanded to 18 holes in 1926. In 1932, renowned designer Robert "Bob" Grimsdell redesigned the course to follow the natural contours of the land, and the layout has remained largely unchanged ever since. Most holes offer views of the warm Indian Ocean, and the course's raised greens — built up through more than a century of top-dressings — are among its most distinctive features. Well-placed bunkers and undulating fairways reward thoughtful shot-making, and the coastal winds add a genuine challenge for low handicappers. At the same time, the course is forgiving enough for occasional golfers, making it a practical choice for families and groups. Family membership packages are available, and a KidzGolf programme provides a pathway for younger players to learn the game.
