The Pines Golf Club

The Pines Golf Club sits on the shores of Parua Bay in Tamaterau, Northland, about 15 minutes from Whangarei toward the Whangarei Heads. Mount Manaia and Mount Aubrey form a constant backdrop, making this one of the more scenic 18-hole layouts in New Zealand. At 5,350 metres, the course is designed to be played and enjoyed rather than survived. Single-figure golfers will find risk-and-reward opportunities, while higher handicappers have genuine chances at birdies. Tidal creeks feeding into Parua Bay serve as the main hazards, bunkers are deliberately sparse — the area has no shortage of sand on its beaches — and the greens are generous and true. Approach play is emphasised throughout, and good putting is rewarded. The overall feel is welcoming, with a layout that suits the broad range of golfers who make up the game.
