The Minikahda Club

The Minikahda Club, founded in 1898 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, holds the distinction of being the oldest country club west of the Mississippi. The name comes from the Sioux language, combining two words that mean "by the side of the water" — a fitting origin for a club that began when a group of young picnickers discovered a hilltop overlooking Lake Calhoun and decided to form a gathering place for golf and social life. The city of Minneapolis has grown up around the club in the decades since. Today it operates as a year-round, full-service facility offering 18 holes alongside dining, social, and sporting activities. The club's logo features an Indian shield, echoing an original artifact displayed inside the Clubhouse. The Minikahda Club is a popular round among Hole19 golfers in Minnesota.
