The Fort Golf Resort

The Fort Golf Resort is an 18-hole public course in Lawrence, Indiana, and one of the most-played courses in Indiana on Hole19. The land carries a deep military history. Fort Benjamin Harrison was dedicated by President Theodore Roosevelt in 1906, named in honor of the 23rd President and Indianapolis resident Benjamin Harrison. The post served as a troop reception center, training facility, and soldier support site through every major conflict from WWI to Desert Storm, and housed prisoners of war in 1944–1945. When the base closed in 1991 through the Base Realignment and Closure process, the U.S. Department of the Interior approved Indiana's request to convert 1,700 of the 2,500 acres into a state park and nature preserve. That decision gave rise to the golf course, which was redesigned by Pete Dye and Tim Liddy. In 1998, Golf Digest ranked it third among Best Affordable New Public Courses. Today it stands as one of Indiana's most respected public layouts.
