South Moor Golf Club has hosted the McGregor Trophy (2011) and the North of England Under 14s Championship, a record that reflects the course's standing in the region. Designed by Dr Alister MacKenzie and opened in 1924, the 18-hole semi-private heathland layout in Stanley, England sits among gorse, heather, bracken, birch, and undeveloped woodland. MacKenzie's routing uses the natural terrain to shape holes rather than impose structure on it. Practice facilities include a Distance Control Range, a Short Game Area, a Well-Putt Indoor Tour Green, and a Trackman Putting Studio. South Moor Golf Club is rated 4.3 by 60+ Hole19 golfers.

Front 9 eases you in nicely, tricking you into thinking you’re going to play the round of your life, until the nasty, unforgiving and difficult back 9 humbles you. Brilliant course, tight fairways and fast greens, fantastic value for money and well maintained.
