Description
Shining Mountain Golf Course sits at nearly 8,500 feet above sea level outside Woodland Park, Colorado — a town surrounded by the pines of Pike National Forest that locals call "The City Above the Clouds." The name itself traces back to the Ute people, who called what we now know as Pikes Peak "Shining Mountain" for the way sunlight reflected off its snow. The 18-hole layout stretches 6,478 yards from the championship tees with a par of 70, a course rating of 71.6, and a slope of 136 on bluegrass. The area sees over 300 days of sunshine annually, making for comfortable summers and mild winters. The views from the course are spectacular, and the mild seasons extend the window for enjoyable rounds throughout the year.

Mike SummersJuly 01, 2025The staff was friendly, and the views were nice—but that’s where the positives end. The fairways were in rough shape, with patchy grass and bare spots everywhere. The greens were the worst I’ve ever played on—covered in sand, chewed up, and completely inconsistent. Putting felt more like a game of Plinko than golf. Charging $70 for this course is highway robbery. At that price, you’d expect a playable track, not a maintenance project. Unless the goal was to practice your bunker shots on every green, I’d suggest looking elsewhere.

Course overall was in terrible shape and the greens were the worst I’ve ever seen. Almost looked like sand traps on the greens. Fairways were also not well maintained. The course has amazing views and unlimited potential. Cart path only which isn’t the worst but the cart paths are terrible and almost rolled the cart several times with normal driving. Staff was friendly, understood our frustration and gave us a complimentary drink at the end. Couldn’t make a simple cocktail when asked because they didn’t have basic ingredients. Definitely not worth the $70 price. Would not play again!

Course was in pretty bad shape and cart path and for 75 dollars not worth it now
Mark LythgoeAugust 23, 2021Interesting course, very challenging back 9. Very good condition. Can be a little slow due to narrow landing areas and lots of ball searching.

Tough course! Well maintained. Greens are true. It's a little narrow in places. 4stars
