Rotorua Golf Club, NZ — a par-70 links-style course with geothermal terrain, top-25 national ranking, and tournament history. See golfer reviews on Hole19.
Description
Rotorua Golf Club, in Rotorua, Bay of Plenty, New Zealand, plays across genuinely unusual terrain: geothermal areas, bubbling mud pools, steam vents, a warm water stream, a geothermal creek, and a lake run through the links-style layout. Designed by Charles Redhead and opened in 1906, the 18-hole, par-70 course stretches 5,799 metres off the blue tees and has been voted among the top 25 courses in the country. The course has hosted the New Zealand Professional Tournament, the NZ Ladies Open, the Men's Interprovincial Tournament, and the Freyberg Rose Bowl. Hole 9 is iconic enough to have appeared on a New Zealand postage stamp, with severe consequences for missing the green. A geothermal crater guards the left side of hole 14, and hole 18 plays from an elevated tee with views across to the Whakarewarewa geothermal reserve and forested hills. The 1930 clubhouse includes the Kānuka Café, which houses one of the finest collections of golf clubs in the Southern Hemisphere. A fully-equipped professional golf shop offers club, trundler, and electric cart hire. Semi-private access applies.

Ad VolleberghMarch 16, 2026We - a group of 6 in two three balls - played today and liked the course. The golfsets, bags en trundles were clearly below par, though. One of my friends didn’t have a putter, my trundle kept falling apart, as well as that of one of my other friends, and the clubs were low quality. Not what one would expect as a guest.

Beautiful course. Extremely punishing when you don’t hit fairways.
