Description
Randpark Golf Club (Firethorn) is an 18-hole course in Randburg, Gauteng, with a notable place in South African golf history. Retief Goosen won the 1995 South African Open here, and Mathias Gronberg claimed the 2000 SA Open — sponsored that year by Mercedes-Benz — on the same layout. Since a significant revamp, the course is longer and a touch more demanding than its sister layout, Bushwillow, and is considered well-suited to host future SA Opens or Joburg Opens. The conditioning is superb throughout. The closing stretch stands out in particular: holes 16, 17, and 18 are all highly demanding and carry genuine card-wrecking potential. Rated 4.5 by Hole19 golfers, Firethorn is one of the most-played courses in Gauteng on Hole19.
