Philadelphia Country Club (Spring Mill)

Philadelphia Country Club (Spring Mill) is an 18-hole championship course in Gladwyne, Pennsylvania, designed by William S. Flynn and opened for play in 1927. The club itself moved to its present location in 1924, having originally been situated in Bala Cynwyd. The Spring Mill course holds a prominent place in golf history, having hosted the 1939 U.S. Open. Byron Nelson claimed that title after two additional playoff rounds against Denny Shute and Craig Wood, in a championship made famous by Sam Snead's eight on the 72nd hole — a collapse that cost him a victory he would never claim in his career. The club has also hosted the 1899 U.S. Women's Championship, the 2003 USGA Women's Amateur, and the 2005 USGA Amateur. The club offers a strong instruction program covering individual lessons, clinics, and junior golf, along with custom club fitting through the Golf Shop.
