Penn National Golf Club & Inn (Iron Forge) is a popular round among Hole19 golfers in Pennsylvania, and it's easy to see why. Designed by Bill Love and opened in 1997, this 18-hole layout plays toward Michaux State Forest in the foothills of South Mountain, offering 30-mile views of surrounding farmland and mountains. Unlike its sister Founders Course, Iron Forge is nearly treeless, rewarding big drives off the tee. The challenge shifts closer to the hole, where precise approach play and sharp putting are essential. From holes 4 through 11, the so-called "Mountain Effect" comes into play — the slopes create optical illusions on the greens, making speed and break harder to read than they appear. A historical highlight awaits behind the 9th green: a small lime kiln dating to the early 1800s, uncovered during course construction and preserved for visitors to explore. It offers a glimpse into the region's iron-making past that makes a round here memorable beyond the golf itself.
