Oppenheimer Park Golf Club

Oppenheimer Park Golf Club is a popular round among Hole19 golfers in Free State, set just outside Welkom — roughly 140 kilometres northeast of Bloemfontein. Established in 1949 and designed by architect Bob Grimsdell, the 18-hole parkland layout sits on the edge of a dam that attracts varied birdlife, with mature trees lining the fairways throughout. The course underwent a major overhaul officially unveiled in 2022, introducing 6 new holes, 4 new greens, and 3 upgraded greens. The redesign also brought tee box options based on scoring averages rather than gender or age. The new signature 2nd hole features an island green framed by palm trees, and a halfway house after the front nine offers food, snacks, and drinks. The South African Amateur Championship has been held here three times. The club's crest features the Cordylus giganteus — locally known as the Ou Volk Lizard — which was found in abundance across the site during construction.
