Old Brickyard Golf Course, a public 18-hole layout in Ferris, Texas, has been voted Best Course in Ellis County — a distinction that reflects what golfers find when they play it. The course is built across terrain shaped by former quarries, with elevation changes, water hazards, and sand traps adding variety throughout the routing. The quarry features in particular give the layout a character that is hard to replicate on flat ground. Practice facilities include an all-grass driving range with multiple target areas, a large putting green maintained to the same specifications as the on-course greens, a practice bunker for sand play, and golf lessons from Head Professional Danny Barbee, PGA. The clubhouse includes a self-service food area open every day, and the 19th Hole Club bar runs Friday through Sunday with a full-service bar and big screen sports. A fully stocked pro shop carries brands including Titleist, Pinnacle, and Monterrey Club. A covered pavilion accommodates events from 50 to 250 people.
