Description
Newcastle Golf Club sits at the mouth of the Hunter River in Fern Bay, New South Wales, about two hours from Sydney. It is one of only two courses in the state to receive international recognition from the panel rating the World's Top 100 Courses, and Golf Australia Magazine ranked it 17th in the country. The 18-hole championship layout stretches 6,200 metres across undulating sand dunes, drawing comparisons to the great historic links of Great Britain and Ireland. Rather than gorse and heather, the fairways are carved through forests of eucalypts and angophoras, home to kookaburras, bearded dragons, and wallabies. Wide tree corridors between holes create a strong sense of peaceful isolation despite the course sitting just a few kilometres from the city of Newcastle. Facilities include a full-length practice fairway, chipping and putting greens, a fully serviced pro shop, bar, and catering. Hole19 golfers rate it 4.6 out of 5.

I joined the club at the start of COVID and have to pinch myself how wonderful the course is every time I’m out there. Although it’s certainly priced at a premium locally, having lived and golfed for 20+ years at various clubs in Sydney, NGC represents ridiculously good value compared to what you get for your money down there, and membership would easily be 3-4 times higher if this course was in Sydney…there simply are some fantastic holes, and the proposed redevelopment looks so exciting - can’t wait to see what the course will be like upon completion…the course, club house and the members I’ve met get 5 stars from me!
