Mount Pleasant Golf Course is an 18-hole layout in Baltimore, Maryland, with a history that sets it apart from most public tracks in the region. The course hosted the Eastern Invitational Open from 1950 to 1958, and again in 1962 before the event moved to Doral the following year. Its most storied moment came in 1956, when Arnold Palmer secured what was then his second US victory on the professional golf tour. The win almost did not happen: Palmer hooked his opening tee shot into Hillen Road, the road that runs the full length of the par-5 first hole, jammed his driver back into his bag, and declared he quit. Playing partner Doug Ford pulled him aside and told him he could spot the field a couple of shots and still win. Palmer pulled an iron, played it safe, and went on to claim the title.
