Moose Lake Golf Club has its roots in a community vision dating back to 1929, when three local figures — banker Richard Lewis, attorney Clayton Dodge, and dentist Elmer J. Williams — set out to build a golf course for the town. With broader community support behind them, they purchased the Romanoski farm on the south shore of Sand Lake as the site. To shape the layout, they turned to Runcie Martin, a sports writer from Duluth, who in turn enlisted the groundskeeper of Nemadji Golf Course in Superior to help with the design work. The result is a 9-hole course in Moose Lake, Minnesota, carrying a history that reflects the grassroots effort it took to bring it to life.
