Mayacoo Lakes Country Club

Mayacoo Lakes Country Club, designed by Jack Nicklaus and Desmond Muirhead and opened in 1972, was initially considered too difficult. Nicklaus made periodic alterations over the years, shaping it into a demanding but fair 18-hole layout in Florida that tests players of every handicap. No hole is meant to penalize a good shot or force a layup. Stretching 6,906 yards from the back tees with a par of 71, the course plays across level land where 13 of the 18 holes feature water hazards. Stands of melaleuca, pine, and palm trees line most fairways, making shot placement a constant priority. Scores below par are rare. In December 2007, Kipp Schulties Golf Design, Inc. completed a full redesign and rebuild of the course. Mayacoo Lakes has hosted the PGA Club Professional Series, the Eastern Seniors, and several state and local events.
