Happy Valley Golf Club

Happy Valley Golf Club is a 27-hole course in Tobetsu, Hokkaido Prefecture, Japan, designed by Ronald Fream around a philosophy of working with the land rather than against it. Fream's concept was to preserve the natural terrain as much as possible, allowing the course to sit within its surroundings rather than reshape them. The layout combines gently rolling, flat sections with more characterful undulation, and the mounding that connects fairways to rough flows naturally into the movement of the greens — creating a continuous sense of the land in play. The result is a course that lets golfers experience the distinctive character of Hokkaido's natural landscape throughout the round.
