Haltwhistle Golf Club

Haltwhistle Golf Club is an 18-hole course in England where well-maintained greens cross land steeped in Roman and medieval history. Evidence of Roman occupation survives across the course in the form of earth mounds, and the rough beside the 17th fairway is said to cover Roman graves — a reminder that errant drives here carry unusual consequences. Finishing the round, the 18th hole offers a view across the valley to Thirlwall Castle, a remnant of the Border Reivers era — a lawless period of pillage, cattle-rustling, and kidnapping along the Anglo-Scottish border that even the Kings of England and Scotland failed to suppress.
