Description
Set in the forest of Fontainebleau, Île-de-France, France, Golf de Fontainebleau is an 18-hole layout opened in 1909 and shaped by three designers: Julien Chantepie, Tom Simpson, and Fred Hawtree. The course plays across sandy soil threaded through trees, rocks, heather, broom, fern, and lilac. Hole 2 is a par 3 carried over rocks, broom, and heather with bunkers left and right. Hole 3, a par 5, opens onto an exceptional panorama with continuous out-of-bounds running the full length of the left side. Hole 4 introduces the first dog leg, framed by lilacs in bloom. The Norman-style clubhouse contains three frescoes by painter Paul Tavernier.
