Golf Club Alpino di Stresa

Golf Club Alpino di Stresa is an 18-hole course set on a natural green terrace between Gignese and Vezzo in Piedmont, Italy. The club has deep roots in Italian golf history. Work began in 1924 under architect Peter Gannon, and by spring 1925 Francesco Pasquali — a local master — had taken charge of shaping the layout. Progress was rapid despite early challenges: drainage was still absent, only three greens were ready, and much of the course remained unplayable. Pasquali pushed forward regardless, and the official inauguration followed that September, with a championship competition held between 21 and 27 September 1925. That century of history places this course among the older established clubs in northern Italy, and its elevated position between two villages hints at the kind of natural terrain that defined early European course design.
