Rated among the most-played resort courses in Nayarit by Hole19 golfers, El Tigre Club de Golf in Nuevo Vallarta, Mexico earned a Top 10 Best Golf Course of the Country ranking in 2008 — and the numbers behind it hold up. Designed by Von Hagge, Smelek and Baril and opened in 2002, the 18-hole, par-72 layout plays across wide fairways broken up by lakes and beach bunkers. The 18th hole is the course's signature, carrying a reputation as a fearsome closer. Tournaments hosted here include the Canadian Tour, LPGA Futures, Mexican Tour, and Mexicana Youth Tour. Practice facilities are extensive: a 300-plus yard driving range with tees on both ends, target greens on both sides, a putting green adjacent to the clubhouse, a sand and chipping area, and professional PGA instruction. The 45,000 sq ft clubhouse includes a Golf & Apparel Shop stocking Titleist, FootJoy, Antigua, and Page & Tuttle. The Clubhouse Restaurant & Bar serves international cuisine indoors with air conditioning or outdoors on a spacious terrace overlooking the 18th hole, with Sunday brunch available.
