Ruairí FallonAugust 09, 2022This was probably my last time ever playing Cregmore. Today’s round was the last straw. Our two-ball group was out on the course for four hours and twenty minutes due to very slow play in front of us, clogging up the whole course. On numerous occasions, three groups stood on one tee box, waiting for those in front to finish playing the hole. Our previous experiences were prime examples of how not to do customer service. Every time we rang looking for a tee time, the person at the other end of the phone made it awful awkward for us to get a tee time. Extremely unwelcoming. Is this because the golf club doesn't want visitors and the opportunity to maximise profits? If so, maybe the club should revert to the American private club model where the members and their guests are the only people that have access to the course. On one of our visits in 2022, we used a voucher for green fees, which was bought in December 2021. The woman we dealt with initially refused to take the voucher from us as she stated that their vouchers expire after six months. I challenged her and referred her to the Consumer Protection (Gift Vouchers) Act 2019, which says that all gift vouchers bought on or after 2nd December 2019 must either have no expiry date or must be valid for at least five years from the date that the gift voucher is issued. Eventually, she let us use the voucher despite her being adamant at the beginning of our encounter that she would not accept it. This was not only an example of poor customer service but also a failure to comply with legislation. My advice to anyone considering visiting Cregmore Park Golf Club? Avoid at all costs. You don't want to pay good money to play somewhere you’re not welcome. There are loads of other excellent courses in the area that are much more friendly and welcoming, and they will be highly thankful for your green fee. One of my missions in life is to grow the beautiful game of golf to include new participants and new audiences from all backgrounds. From my experience to date with Cregmore Park Golf Club, their primary objective seems to be the shrinking of the game. Is this really what we want to see in 2022?
