Country Club of Charleston

The 11th hole at Country Club of Charleston is one of golf's most storied Redan replicas — modelled on the 15th at North Berwick, it famously drew a 13 from Sam Snead and prompted Ben Hogan to say it needed five sticks of dynamite. That hole alone signals what Seth Raynor built here when the course opened in 1925. The 18-hole private layout sits in Charleston, South Carolina, set among marsh, lowcountry vistas, and the Ashley River. Raynor's template philosophy runs throughout: hole 3 is an Eden design drawn from the 11th at St Andrews Old Course. The club has hosted 27 State Championships since 1925, the Azalea Invitational, the Azalea Senior, the Beth Daniel Junior Invitational, and the 2019 U.S. Women's Open. The USGA Mid-Amateur Championship is scheduled here for September 2028. The club is private, with a new golf shop and new aquatics and wellness facilities on site.
