Description
Cold Spring Country Club is a semi-private 18-hole course in Belchertown, Massachusetts, designed by Mary Armstrong and opened in 2012. Playing to a par of 71 from up to 6,521 yards, the layout moves across rolling hills and wetland areas, with water hazards and bunkers throughout. Several holes stand out. Hole 1, "Elevation," is a 216-yard par 3 from the back tees with a panoramic view of Central Massachusetts. Hole 2, "The Gauntlet," is a 537-yard par 5 with an uphill drive to a narrow fairway. Hole 3, "Pondview," plays 131 yards over water to a secluded green. Hole 6, "Challenger," is a 257-yard par 3 and the toughest par 3 on the course. Hole 11, "The Tunnel," is the longest hole at 566 yards. The clubhouse includes a fully-stocked pro shop, locker and shower facilities, and a patio for meals. A restaurant is opening soon under new management.

Tim MitchellAugust 22, 2017Things that you read over and over tend to be true - front nine is quirky, ground is hard everywhere, etc. The negative things that stood out beyond what I had seen in other reviews were (1) slow greens and (2) slopes right and left of greens turn missed approaches into big numbers (and lost balls). In the end, I liked the back nine and had an enjoyable round with friends. I won't suggest going back, but neither will I turn down an invitation.
